Stipplicon is the raunch underbelly of the Moldy Peaches. With a replacement for one member who quit after his guitar got broken at the bacchanalian North Six show back in Jan, and Steven Mertens stepping up on bass, they were 50% reconstituted for this outing, a thursday night headline at the venerable Continental on St Marks Place. The song I have picked. - 'Stamp Your Name On It' - appears on the new anti-folk comp on Rough Trade. Before Stipplicon, an NYC all girl outfit - Cookies Downtown - played. They were pretty raunchy too, featuring feisty guitars and a mashing version of House of the Rising Sun. 'Birds', the first track on their demo, is a little more atmospheric. |
