'the weeping woman'

While a lot of attention was paid to the big U2 concert in South Africa to mark World AIDS Day, it was not the only such event. On the actual day itself, for the UN & NYC communities to participate, African Services took over the cavernous Cathedral Of St John The Divine with a varied program of speakers, including presidential candidate Al Sharpton, plus young musicians from around the world.

The clip here, filmed by Androgenius of PG2M, is Lila Downs, a Scots-Mexican from Oaxaca, singing the famous lament of the mythical Llorona, the Weeping Woman. La Llorona weeps because, in a fit of anger, she just drowned her children.

And yes, I have done this one up to VCD - just the the one track (1,5:23). As usual you can get a copy from the pinstand for $4 (+$1 foreign) - if interested email orders@pinstand.com with the subject=VCD Order and I'll let you know the process. The song "La Llorona' can be found on Lila's first CD, and also, in two different versions, on the soundtrack to the movie 'Frida'
