'here's to being beautiful'

With Fitz now gone almost two months the Mighty Robot finally struggled to it's feet for another show, primed by Lisa G, who had the swedish group Revlon 9 coming in. Revlon 9 are pretty hot in NYC having had a bit of a hit with the song 'Someone Like You' at the height of the e-clash craze. For support she brought down a novel crew - Les Georges Leningrad - from Montreal. It was hard to say if this band was a parody, a parody of a parody, strictly dada, or genuinely quirky. Very entertaining, whichever way. The clip was their first song in. To keep the night respectably raucous, Doug M. had been called on to rustle up a couple of contenders from the pit at Lit to open. I missed the first. The second, Red Eyed Legends, in from Chicago for CMJ and staying on for this show, certainly looked and acted their name. I suspect several days and nights of drinking, smoking, sleeping on floors, in vans etc etc through the craziness that is CMJ (1000 bands in 3 days) had something to do with it. They staggered through their set before triumphantly finishing with Elvis Costello's 'Pump It Up' , Here we have then taking an aesthetic sideswipe..

And yes I have knocked up VCD's of the show, one for each band, that would be VCD3521 for the Red Eyed Legends (9,28:41), VCD3522 for Les Georges Leningrad (6+,21:07), and VCD3523 for the Revlon 9 (11+,37:13). As you will see from the clips the whole thing is spectacularly lit, as we expect from the Mighty Robot A-V Squad, but which can play hell with my focusing. Sound is good if a little brittle. , You can get copies from the pinstand for $4 inc. mail ($5 foreign) - if interested email orders@pinstand.com with the subject=VCD_order, and I'll let you know the process. Or just paypal straight in at that address.
