This Tuesday variety show was promoted by Rebecca & Larissa under the peculiar name above. They brought along their pals from the Mighty Robot Visual Squad to drape the room with imagery. I arrived minutes before the Tall Boys hit the stage. I missed the opener - a japanese band called Invisible Man's Deathbed, and also an 'unfashion' show -about which the room was still buzzing. I don't know the details, but there was a plentiful residue of feathers on the floor. Despite a growing familiarity with the Tall Boys, I am yet to work out if the name is one word or two, as are they it seems.. We'll make it two this time, since we went with one last time.. Ashley's bass blew up after one song, but she was able to borrow one from the Japanese. They played a new untitled song, and ended with their now polished cover of Kleenex's 'Ain't You'. I've picked the fourth one in - 'Public Transportation' - a song about mobility - for the clip. Then it was the Ssion, just getting their second wind in their little tour of NYC and points beyond. This time you get the killer penultimate song from their set, a sensitive romantic ballad. Note how the chicken actually breaks down in tears at the end. Ssion shock and awe the unsuspecting - one girl came up to me in the aftermath "WHAT?" she demanded "was the name of that band?" .. Last up we had The Flesh, freshly signed to Kanine Records, and feeling their oats. They feature a hot rhythm section, a ranting singer, and a girl playing farfisa style organ. The song here, with it's dualistic lyric, is the title track of their forthcoming EP.

And yes i did vcd the show - dropped out a couple of the Tallboys and one of the Flesh, so it's about six songs each band - available right now from the pinstand for $4 inc. mail ($5 foreign) - if interested email orders@pinstand.com with the subject=VCD286, and I'll let you know the process, or just paypal straight in to that address.
