'hurray!'

This show was the launch party for 'Shout! The Revolution Rave-Up 1997-2003' - a comp CD marking the 5th Anniversary of Shout!, a popular weekly NYC Sunday night party that features 60's style. The evening also celebrated the birthday of Tony Fletcher, who, when he was a lad, relied on the pinstand to print his fanzine - Jamming - in the UK. My friend DJ Scratchy, over that week for the screenings of the Joe Strummer St Ann's punkcast, had been to see The Greenhornes open for the YYY's on the Wednesday and raved about them. So I was there without a doubt. The Greenhornes are an archetypical beat group a la 1965, absolutely. Maybe the best ever of that genre. A shouted "Hooray!" was about their only comment betweeen songs. The songs themselves were on less cheerful themes, just about all being about hard times, in life and love. I was especially impressed by the bass player.

And yes i have knocked up a VCD of the show, 18 songs including encores (altho I did run out of tape halfway thru the last song). You can get from the pinstand for $4 inc. mail ($5 foreign) - if interested email orders@pinstand.com with the subject=VCD273, and I'll let you know the process, or just paypal straight in to that address.
