'opportunity bless my soul'|
Friday night at Pianos, a party for the yyy's, who had just wrapped their US tour with two hot nights at Irving Plaza, the new record whipping up the charts. Open bar. The Liars, The Kills, Ex Models, Young People, and many others in attendance. A video projector was set up upstairs so we could watch the yyy appearance, doing 'Y Control', live on Conan. Then we all back down for the Ssion, rumored to be amazing. Ssion are from Kansas City, Missouri, and apparently the yyy's had adopted them after they opened for them down there. Now they had been signed to NYC's Version City Records, and had devastated the Irving Plaza crowd opening for the yyy's the previous night. They did not disappoint. Comprising a cow, a chicken, and a lion, and backed by co-ordinated video, they exploded onto the stage and gripped the consciousness with emotional hook-laden songs about desire and ambition. After making us cry, they questioned their very raison d'etre. Then the lion went into paroxysms of labor and gave birth, onstage, to a reptile. "It's a snake!" marveled the cow, before advising us to ride it until it shook.. The band's finale was an autobiographical plea for luck in the struggle for success. Which I am sure we all wish them.
And yes i have knocked up a VCD of the show. I did miss the first song cos of nipping out for a smoke, but you get a healthy 5 numbers.
