'We're Darediablo'

London's Southern Records is one of the biggest distributors of indie music in the UK, if not the world. Their connection with NYC, tho, has always been tenuous compared to their strong links to the DC and Chicago scenes. So when I found out that they had actually signed a deal with this Brooklyn outfit I was intrigued. Only significant import sales could have precipitated such a move. With this the only local show scheduled in the forseeable future, I went to take a look and listen. It turns out they are indisputably and unapologetically prog. There are other Brooklyn bands that flirt with the style, adding angles and aggression, or weirdness, but these guys don't mess about. No vocals, titles like 'Sigurd The Dragon Slayer' and 'Behold The Panther Stone' (clip below), and virtuoso playing. All that was missing was a drum solo. Note the use of the keyboard to provide the thumping bass line in 'Panther'. The record that made their name is called 'Bedtime Stories' and is available here. As I understand it, they have almost finished the new one which will be out in the fall.

And yes i have knocked up a VCD of the show, all 10 songs, which, until the band calls a halt, you can get from the pinstand for $4 inc. mail ($5 foreign) - if interested email orders@pinstand.com with the subject=VCD265, and I'll let you know the process. Or just paypal straight in to that address.
