'put a little meat with the bean curd baby'

I had met The Spunks, a japanese punk band based in Brooklyn, at a Joe Strummer tribute a week or so before and determined to shoot them. They headlined this show, which was a friendly affair featuring some other peculiar Japanese acts which I missed. As I arrived a large non-japanese contingent was setting up. This was Night Wigga, whose speciality is covering AOR hits in juju-style. Heart, Fleetwood Mac, all were given the extended Nigerian treatment, climaxing with a 'Freebird' encore. In keeping with the tradition of enthusiastic audiences gracing artist with cash on stage the singer wore a large green piggy bank dildo-fashion, and the video backdrop urged contributions - "The capitalist pig wants change." The song I have picked is Clapton's 'Layla' where the horns do a pretty good Duane Allman.

The Spunks were as good as I'd guessed. Tight and fast and highly humorous. They also did covers, including fashioning a tribute to a popular local chinese restaurant out of The Arrows 'I love Rock'n'Roll'. They encored with their Clash trib - 'Brand New Cadillac'.

And yes i have knocked up a VCD of the show, all 8 songs from Night Wigga but just 3 from The Spunks as I had audio probs, which, until I receive a cease and desist from the bands, you can get from the pinstand for $4 inc. mail ($5 foreign) - if interested email orders@pinstand.com with the subject=VCD, and ask for VCD243. I'll let you know the process, or just paypal it in at the same address.
