This show, a CD release party for Swiss Dot, was supposed to happen in Jan, but on the day in question the KF got shut down until they installed more soundproofing, so it got postponed. Not that much soundproofing is required for Swiss Dot, NYC's softest. In fact the KF sound guy kept yelling at them to sing louder.. The first song below is the closer on the new (4 tune) CD - (available here). The second song was the set closer. The sax starts a bit loud cos the sound guy had the mike all cranked up for the vocals, but it settles down.
As I understand it the Dots' record label is some kind if collective effort, and thus their comrades the somnambulants were along to make the party swing. I had imagined that they might be a little, um, somnolent. In fact they turned out to be pretty energetic, not so much like sleepwalking as running through some crazy dream. Firmly retro, one resembling a skinny mod G.W., the other a 60's model, they laid down an allegoric new wave groove. Polemical justification came in the song below. And yes i have knocked up a VCD of the show, I didn't get all of Swiss Dot, but there are 5 tunes, and then 7 from the somnambulants. Which as usual, subject to an ok from the bands, you can get from the pinstand for $4 inc. mail ($5 foreign) - if interested email orders@pinstand.com with the subject=swiss_VCD, and I'll let you know if and when. |
