'nostalgie de shebeen'

In an original twist on talkover circumstance, this was a dubdance-style multimedia event in a chintzy parlor on the Upper West Side. David Corio projected images from 'The Black Chord', Ras Kush selected, Vivien Goldman vocalised in a genteel Thursday night session. Programs, wine and cheese provided. One of an annual series of lectures/studies - The Barnard Forum on Migration - Viv's topic was "ONE DROP: How Jamaica Changed the World's Music" . She gave a practiced rundown of the root and branch of global jamdown as Kush and David flipped 45's and slides respectively. After the first segment traced early movements in the uk leading eventually to the indigenous style known as 'lovers rock' Viv called a haul and pull to give a moment to let some of that peculiarly sweet style flow. As Kush swung into some skanga she moved on to the topic of Sound System and grew rapturous recalling the good old UK red stripe and spliff scene of the 70's.
