'Mother knows best'

I started paying attention to the Screaming Females back in April after Jim Testa named them the most exciting new NJ band in 10 years. I had to wait til midsummers day before they eventually showed up at Cake Shop on the third night of an extensive national tour to promote their second album. I too was impressed. The band is a trio. They are a band of contradictions. Generally very tight, they are occasionally almost jazzily loose. They mix raving queercore and indie awkwardness with fluid blues riffing and solos. While the rhythm section appear to be a couple of regular college dudes, fronting on guitar and vocals is a dimunitive minx with an overgrown Herman Hermit haircut. See for yourself.. The three songs here are 'Mothership', 'Theme Song', and 'Sports'.

Clicking on the images will take you to the clips on YouTube. The h.264's are iPod ready. There is a DVD. The new album is called 'What if Someone is Watching their T.V.?' and was recorded in all of six days, just prior to the tour. I suspect that the only way you are going to get hold of a copy is to catch them on the road..
