PUNKCAST#1167 Peel Pianos NYC Jun 16 2007 sponsored by WWWhatsup Online Pinstand with thanks to Pianos |
'tightrope walking' |
What wasn't mentioned on this, the second NYC date of critically acclaimed Austin band Peel's first tour of the East Coast, was that Josh Parmenter - founder and major songwriter of the band - was nowhere to be seen. One wouldn't have known, however, from the show which rocked. The music is restless, amorphous. It's a kind of gentle country twee - the first clip 'Oskaloosa' - to airy rock - the second clip 'Bells' - with garage overtones that want to break out into full-on Texas psyche, which they do on the last clip - a cover of the The 13th Floor Elevators 'You're Gonna Miss Me'. |
Clicking on the images will take you to the clips on YouTube. The h.264's are iPod ready. There is a DVD. Peel's album is available from Peek-A-Boo Records. |
